Go to School Today

You can go to a grand, free, global school today by clicking the subjects below this article. Understandably, concerns, hopes, and frustrations about what should be can temper taking of full advantage of what already exists. The formation of the school within the Internet is something truly wonderful that has already happened. Millions are attending, more should be. Although it is not yet fully diverse in language and origin, that is happening too. If you will take a few minutes to click through the sample subject links below you will recognize the dawn of the global golden age of learning.

Right now, anyone entering the Internet can study and learn most of the basic knowledge held in common by humankind. It is interfaced in compelling digital beauty that is maturing into revolutionary pedagogical effectiveness. There is more good news. Roaring down the tech pipe are broader bandwidth, more wiring and glass, along with mobile Internet devices and connections. Your cell phone is becoming access to everything known, virtually as you hold it in your hand.

It lifts a great worry to realize that efforts to organize and “clean up” the Internet are futile. Most webpages are junk: sometimes useless, other times offensive. Nature gives us a big hint for how to deal with that. Our cells seem to ignore the high percentage of our "junk DNA" and use the tiny percentage of our genes that code us into what we are. Our vision works the same way, as our visual cortex chooses to see meaningful shapes in a chaotic field of light and color. For every link chosen below there are others that present the same topic with less effectiveness. A very positive trend within in Internet is that the best sites for a subject seem to be coming to the fore while the lesser ones are fading.

I have proposed jumpstart projects where a small community of teachers and students begin learning from the Internet. Internet use can best be enticed to grow from the bottom up; set up a few locations and a network will spread. Reconstituting an entire school system is a worthy but enormous endeavor that takes time. Going to school today requires only a computer connected to the Internet linked out to websites like the ones given here.
