The education establishment is mired in enormous difficulties,
and learning across our planet founders.
YET NOW THERE IS VERY GOOD NEWS:
The Internet industry has altered
the status of what is known by humankind
with the most spectacular change since at least the invention of writing:
What is known by humankind is now located primarily on the Internet.

This change makes it possible for every person on our planet
to learn the common knowledge of humankind
and to do so in common with every other person.
We will soon all be quite literally on the same page,
with awesome implications for mutual understanding and world peace.
YET THERE IS WORK TO BE DONE
The best conceivable group to implement the Internet’s gift of common knowledge
is the Internet industry itself — not the education establishment,
not governments, not special interest groups.

If you are a member of the Internet industry,
please consider the pledge on this page,
and in whatever way you can,
do undertake to play your part in fulfilling its wonderful promise.

INTERNET INDUSTRY PLEDGE
To usher in the Golden Age of Learning,
we of the Internet Industry shall:

• interface the common knowledge of humankind
that has cascaded on to the Internet with authenticity
and the finest digital means of expression,

• transmit the interfaced knowledge
for global wired and wireless reception,

• develop and deliver conventions, software,
and access devices to every person on Earth,

• encourage the literacy, learning, and teaching
skills necessary to engage this knowledge
